Safety culture assessment
Shows how safety works on site, beyond the written procedures.
A safety culture assessment shows how safety works on site, beyond the written procedures. It looks at leadership, reporting, attitudes to risk and supervisor practice across your sites.
Who it is for: Operations leaders, HSE managers and site heads.
Timeline: 1–4 weeks, and can be extended depending on the scope of the assessment.
When to use it
- After an incident, to understand the wider safety culture.
- When near-miss reporting is low compared with the work being done.
- Before a safety leadership or behaviour-based safety programme.
What we measure
- Leadership commitment: We assess how visibly leaders support safety and whether their actions match their words.
- Reporting and learning: We look at whether people report incidents and near misses, and whether the organisation learns from them.
- Attitudes to risk: We examine how people perceive risk and whether shortcuts are accepted.
- Supervisor practice: We assess how supervisors lead safety day to day, including safety conversations and stopping unsafe work.
How we assess
- Safety climate survey
- Site visits
- Interviews
What you receive
- A safety culture maturity rating for each site
- A site-by-site comparison showing where risk is highest
- An improvement roadmap with leading indicators to track
